Spring is Here!

Uncategorized No Comments »

Now that it is finally Spring, the Eco Council are ready to get out and about and get to work.

The vegetable garden has been prepared for the new season and as the weather gets warmer you will notice Mr Irvine busy with helpers and planting new crops.

At our meeting today we thought about Spring Cleaning and how it would be good to bring any books that are not useful to us anymore into school so that we can swap them!

The book swap will be on 7th April in 4F between 12-1pm. Books brought in ti swap must be suitable for children and in good condition. It is very important that you ask an adult at home before bringing in a book to swap.

For more information, please ask Mrs Foster, Mrs Grainger or one of the Eco Council members

Can you help?

Before half term, we met to discuss what we would like to do this year as part of the Eco Council.  Our councillers had some great suggestions, for example: planting a tree, creating hedgehog homes, and planting more flowers.  We would love you to leave us a comment with your good ideas.  We look forward to sharing them at our next meeting!

Green Flag Assessment Results

Uncategorized 1 Comment »

Today we received the report from Eco Schools regarding our recent success in gaining the Green Flag Award, (for the third time running!).

Here are the Assessor’s comments:

“This is a very impressive school where the pupils are truly concerned not only about Global Issues, but also local issues and this can only be attributed to the staff who are dedicated to teaching the pupils. The school has links not only with the local community but a farm in Africa which they help through money raised from environment events suggested by the Committee. Well done to everyone.”

A big thank you to ex pupil Hannah for joining us once again this week at our Eco Council meeting.

Hannah has helped us a lot by discussing the best places to install homes for our wildlife. She is studying Animal Welfare at University and is very knowledgeable! Our councilors had lots of questions for her!

This week Year 6 visited Tesco in Stretford. The purpose of this was to learn about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. This included looking at how to prepare healthy foods, creating a balanced diet and where our food comes from. I know that they had an absolutely fantastic time and we would like to thank Tesco for providing us with this opportunity!
